Description

As an Afro-Indigenous woman artist and the first known woman of color to graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, Nancy Elizabeth Prophet endured racism and sexism while making her art. I Will Not Bend an Inch, also on view in her home state of Rhode Island, is the first museum examination of this underrecognized sculptor, featuring 20 works along with documentation that explores her navigation of an unwelcoming world.
