Description
Artist George Morrison was born in a Native American village in Chippewa City, Minnesota, as part of the Ojibwe tribe. After facing poverty, illness and racism during childhood, he came to New York City on an art scholarship. Morrison worked alongside artists like Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, becoming a leader in the abstract expressionist movement of the 1940s and ’50s. At this exhibition, visitors can see 25 works from Morrison’s earliest years in NYC, which in his words was a “magical city.”
